Aske – “Genetics” EP (Modularz) [March 17, 2022] - Dirty Epic

Aske – “Genetics” EP (Modularz) [March 17, 2022]

Developer’s Modularz imprint welcomes Brazilian producer Aske for his debut on the label with unblemished four track EP “Genetics”. Like many releases on the legendary Los Angeles-based record label, the focus is on dark, spaced out techno full of electronic subtleties.

The title track, “Genetics”, starts off brooding and ominous, with a steady backbeat rhythm attached to eerie drones and a marching acid line. Dark complexities emerge as the track travels its course, moving the listener steadily through the vast ecosystem of Aske’s mind.

“Ad Eternum” detonates next with a hefty kick and percussion combo to ready the listener for blast off into outer space. Slowly, the Brazilian producer builds up the mechanical drums and ethereal synth drones to hypnotize any dancefloor under his spell. Riding on the tight groove established at the start with flourishing textures throughout, the nearly six-minute journey provides an escape from the club bangers and banal dark techno.

“A Message from Orion” begins the b-side with a more resonant acid synthesis that encroaches closer and closer as other psychedelic modular sounds come into play over the ravaging kick drum. Flying through space yet again encapsulates the vibe that Aske arranges in this thematic number, and it stays entrancing until the final thirty-second outro.

“Symbiosis” completes this standout “Genetics” EP with a purebred techno spectacle as one last batch of supernatural sounds feed into industrious reverbs, giving off a huge sense of space around its relentless kick and bass combo. Anxiety-driven sonics for the bulk of the track, yet properly calming itself at the last minute,  “Symbiosis” exclaims an exceptional finish to an immaculate release.
