Madrid’s up-and-coming producer BZTN releases standout driving Techno EP “CXCVII” for Ōtomo Records.
Ōtomo is a Netherlands-based Techno label that first emerged back in 2016. Since then, the label has stayed busy, releasing two to three EPs each month on average with each titled by the roman numerical value of each release. Typically, the label focuses on the harder side of Techno, often showcasing some of the best, newly emerging Industrial Techno artists on a global scale. One of their latest EPs comes from a newly emerging Spanish producer by the name of BZTN, and it is rock solid.
The opening track on the EP “Corrupted Minds” wastes no time in getting the ball rolling. As the heavy kick drum pummels you, frantic bursts of static fill in the gaps. Noisy and electrifying, the track suddenly takes a surprising turn. An epic synth lead emerges as if out of the fog and guides you to sheer bliss and transcendence. Track two, titled “Do You Still Think Of Me,” picks up where the first selection leaves off. A trance-inducing melody gently creeps its way in, and a soft voice echoes out. A shrill build up leads to an impactful, stripped-back drop.
Next, “Respect Yourself” injects some light-hearted and swanky Hip-Hop flavor into the mix. Around the four-minute mark, BZTN unleashes a wild and unnervingly fast hypnotic loop, providing a jarring and impactful boost of energy. Last on the “CXCVII” EP is the more industrial and rugged cut, “You Punk.” Perfectly positioned as the release’s grand finale, this track is a no holds barred explosion of pounding bass and piercing sound effects, not recommended for the faint of heart.
