The devious grooves and tribal debauchery found on Amor Satyr’s “Vuk Vuk” EP are devilishly catchy. Coming off the Jerry Horny label, known for insane antics and high-speed bass music since 2020, “Vuk Vuk” channels a deep, organic rhythm that carries heavy weight.
Paris-based producer Amor Satyr offers up four straight-to-the-point bangers that really smack the speakers down across “Vuk Vuk”. On a hot streak since 2020, his music combines raw and rambunctious flavors that lean heavily on the bass and tempo scale. The entire release rides an entertaining line of tongue-in-cheek playfulness crossed with ancestral summoning rituals, all set to an unforgiving assault of tribal percussion and pulsating low end.
The title track pounds weighty kick and grumbling bass at the very inception of the first measure. A drawn out acapella of tribal chants adds an esoteric grittiness that someone doesn’t just stumble upon itself. Punchy pan drums and wood chops make for an even more irresistible, stimulating track. They implement a crisp, slick atmosphere that follows suit in the next three tracks.
“Tuka” is a breaky, DnB-esque track that draws more of the deviant energy as opposed to the slightly lighter “Vuk Vuk”. Warbled bass reverberates back and forth as the percussion patterns break and dictate the track’s erratic yet sophisticated flow. A dissonant flute drops several octaves to create a spacey and hypnotic draw, melding harmonically with the melodic bassline.
Both “Barbosa” and “Braba” are party rockers destined for the dancefloor. “Barbosa” utilizes a clangy, brassy drum kit to exquisite degree. The percussion is extremely clean and pleasurable to the ear holes—certainly the most high spirited endeavor that Amor Satyr brought to the table on this EP. The rhythm section levels up about three minutes into the track and puts on a showcase of funky and tight beats. Meanwhile, the closing track opts for a deep bass route with dubstep-like echoes and a constant acapella chorus. The final track, “Braba,” is chunky and wobbly, leaning into a leftfield style yet still holding onto the unyielding onslaught that the release pours on.
