Milan Electro and Breaks imprint Funclab Records features Ukrainian-based Techno and Electro maestro Poly Chain’s “Relax” release featuring 4 introspective and psychedelic Electro and Breaks-styled tracks ranging from heavy Techno variants to early glitch elements fit for any well-timed artist and audio connoisseur alike.
Over the span of the past half decade or so, Milan’s Funclab Records has been an unsung gem of Breaks, Electro, and Techno-influenced artistry. Nestled in the heart of the country’s musical mecca, the label has been pushing out consistent releases with a singular focus on uniquely inspiring audio engineers and their modernized and forward-pushing productions. In the 5 years since the initial release, the label has amassed an impressive 32 release catalog of VA releases and single artist EPs that are, in short, testing and blurring the lines between genres.
In the most recent release on the imprint, Ukrainian-based artist Poly Chain debuts 4 productions that feature the prominent artists’ glitchy sequencing of synth structures, alongside Techno and Electro-influenced Breaks. Poly Chain has become something of a well-known name within the community, having been a guest to the heavily sought after placements on shows such as Boiler Room and even Germany’s HÖR Berlin.
“Relax” dives into versatile and deep takes on an amalgamation of sounds and auditory environments alike. Starting with “You,” the album takes a deep dive into subtlety and cerebral motions coupled with heavy throbbing percussive elements powering into high energy momentous breaks traversing mental plunges in and out of a space-y environment. Following the previous track, “Can’t” spins into more Electro tonal qualities mixed with four-four Techno lines and pads. More malicious sounding than its predecessor, “Can’t” showcases Poly Chain’s musical range of emotion and storytelling that has made the artist’s career noteworthy on its own.
Coming to the last half of the release, “Have” transitions the album into another Techno-centric cut but features an experience that blends the tastes found between both “You” and “Can’t” in the airy takes of the first track coupled with the ominous qualities found in “Can’t” in a new auditory engineered space. Finally, ending the release, “What You Truly Desire” punches in right away with a broken rhythm that blasts through low frequencies and kicks through the chest in all the best ways. “What You Truly Desire” is a well placed summation to the release and closes out the four tracker with calming placement that evokes sunrise endings to long nights on dance floors or open air parties alike.
