VA – “Cœur de Glace” (D.KO Records) [June 21, 2024]

D.KO Records is a vinyl-only record label and event series based out of Paris. Recently celebrating 10 years of its existence, they’ve consistently put out an eclectic mix of house and techno—including some broken beats, IDM, and downtempo. The 10 year VA comp includes tracks from both Mud Deep and Sans-Qui as well as label co-owner, GGGG. Meanwhile, this “Cœur de Glace” release marks the label debut for both Binary Digit and Fasme.

The EP opens with Binary Digit offering his signature energy right out of the gate. Known for stripped back, melodic bangers, the semi-mysterious French artist takes us to the rave with “U Want Dis,” and gets “the party started right”.

Fasme turns the energy inward for his track, “Morning” while also maintaining a deeply groovy low end. Perfect for giving the dancefloor a much needed breather. An analog wizard with a penchant for 303 and having released on Feel My Bicep, this live artist knows his stuff, clearly.

Just a supremely satisfying track overall, GGGG brings the energy back up with an ethereal yet electrifying groover in “La Cueillette”. Tight percussion and a rolling bassline provide the right level of contrasting elements. Dare you not to dance to this…

Closing out the four-tracker are Mud Deep and Sans-Qui with “Mesonyx”. Also bringing the acid but with a bittersweetness, this is the perfect close to a certified banger of an EP.

“Cœur de Glace” is primed to soundtrack your summer adventures. Purchase a copy and soak in the synths.
