The perfect mood for those end-of-summer festivities, XYIZ brings us “Pressure Rooms”. This self-released EP is a bass-happy vibe maker that will shake up the rotation with smooth grooves for the funkiest part of your soul.
While little is known about the young Leipzig DJ, XYIZ’s sound has proliferated far beyond Leipzig. Co-Founder of the record label of Dreh und Angel, they have been invested in experimenting with Dub, House, and Techno for over 15 years. With a knack for organic elements and analog instrumentation, their sound is warm, round, sometimes melodic, and often with heavenly atmospheric qualities.
On ‘Distant Summer’ from the Exorbital EP, you can hear a distinctive moody minimal tone, yet on the ‘Seccho/Trip Speeder EP’ the vibe is bouncy and deep. The expanse of material and depth of quality make listening to XYIZ a whole mood. No two tracks are ever the same, and while you can hear their distinctive style through the multigenre of their catalog, there is always an element of surprise in what may come next.
Their latest release “Pressure Rooms” combines elements of raw Techno, Dub, House, and Hardgroove for a super groovy, deep, organic roller that spills like waterfall in an amalgamation of serene yet pumping sounds. Pulling vocal samples to amplify the rhythmic swing, XYIZ sets a wondrous tone that is light and airy.
The first track off the LP, “Jungle Return” bops right on with a bouncy and consistent groove. Paired with an inquisitive vocal sample, the tune gives a sense of wonder. Sounds of jungle animals push through the beat and it makes you feel like you’ve started on a grand adventure. Mutan Fly throws in a killer remix of “Jungle Return” for the 2nd track, providing a harder and more driving adaptation of the tune. Capitalizing on the ethereal nature, Mutal Fly brings out the circular elements and adds an exciting multi melody to get lost in.
Following is ‘Rhythm Ruin’ with another deep cut to melt your worries. Pounding bass welcomes you upon entry and a slick kick-drop slithers in, creating a dark and mysterious energy. Redrum provides a remix for “Rhythm Ruin” that delivers an even darker and more mysterious cut of the tune. Long, drawn out tones add an element of suspense and the hyper fast high hats, paired with an atmospheric, swirling, melodic glimmer combine for a track that feels like you’re being ascended into heaven.
“These Shoes Are Heavy” is predictably, as the name suggests, a clunker of a tune. Deep, chunky bass two-steps into a delicately layered, progressive track. Various dance elements are stirred together seamlessly creating an atmospheric delight for the ears. Never too sure where each corner will take you, the track develops overtime and will provide a ton of excitement on the dancefloor as it unfolds.
Finishing out the release, “You Know” is a fragrant and bouncy track with elements of House that seem built to invigorate the dancefloor with playful energy. While XYIZ might still be a bit of an enigma, one thing is certain, their star is steadily rising, and we can’t wait to see what mood might come next!
