Adlas grips the reins with a strategically placed dubby, minimal funk that sounds like modest luxury. His first appearance on the Lisbon HAYES imprint, he finds an irresistible stance on groove.
Berlin-based DJ and producer Adlas graces our ears with a record you could keep on deck for years to come. Honing his style over the years, he’s known for his moody, deep, syncopated rhythms that can traverse genres and borderlines. Having graced the stages at some of the most renowned venues in the world, he is well equipped to serve future facing tunes that inherently make you want to dance. No stranger to the modular synth, it’s clear he’s fully invested in his craft.
The way Adlas delivers his grooves for this record feels like a safe space. A place where your ears instantly feel at ease in its meticulous organization while also sliding in corners of psychedelic surprises to keep you intrigued. The simplicity gives space without cluttering the mind, and the choice of rhythm acoustically fills the room with beauty, precision and sophistication.
An overall pleasure to the ears, it feels like Adlas has found the sweet spot to his sound. In contrast to previous offerings, this record brings to life a very clear, coherent vision and round, modern sound. No frills, just straight forward, easy listening techno.
His 4th EP to date, the five-track collection “Nothing Else to Go By” kicks off with a bass heavy opening. ’Deadstock’ pummels straight on and progresses in subtle intricacies before landing at a warped rhythm that feels like devious ray beams shooting through the sky. ‘Magnetic’ pulses through with a heart-beat style rhythm paired with a deep resonating drum kick and crisp, distorted high hats. A moody one for late nights and mischief, ’Open Question’ will help you conjure spirits of the wicked.
Ethereal and shimmering, ‘Weathering’ gives a gong-like resonance that feels like coming up on something magical. It’s a definitive dance-floor energy builder, driving the pace gently for a restorative moment. ‘The Rumors are True’ wastes no time banging straight on with heavy-hitting bass and greets you with a funky and playful syncopation. Uncomplicated, it crafts a rhythmic playground with plenty of space to breathe and play.
One to keep on your radar, this feels like the tinder of something beautiful for Adlas.
