Staím returns to Stützpunkt with the “Beginning” EP for his second release on the Berlin-based techno label.
Following the success of his debut, this “Beginning” EP highlights his unique take on techno—blending driving, pulsating, and sometimes intricate rhythms with layers of samples, loops, and melodies. With this release, Staím solidifies his presence in the Techno scene, pushing boundaries while staying true to his signature style.
“Beginning” starts off the EP with an upbeat and groovy 1-bar loop drum loop that gradually blooms into a 6AM warehouse roller with its bouncy baseline and shimmery sharp FM pads. Staím follows up strongly with “Dr. Blofeld”, a deep and dubby Detroit Techno number with a cheeky reference to a James Bond villain to boot.
“Solar Drift” takes a turn into hardgroove territory, featuring an excellent sample selection of horn and string layers over chord stabs and a funky bassline. Staím’s arrangement is so on-point here. The track has an undeniable versatility to be played out in Berlin, Ibiza, or a Sunday afternoon mix sesh in the backyard. The closing track, “Super Boothing,” is a heads-down hypnotic affair, its name perhaps alluding to the annual trade show and festival in Berlin that showcases synthesizers, electronic music gear, and audio technology.
As a core member of Stützpunkt crew, Staím is well into a decade of DJing and producing Techno and shows a level of maturity in production that comes from witnessing trends come and go. With an EP title like “Beginning” and over 10 years of experience in the scene, it seems like Staím is trying to tell us that each creative act can be a new beginning. That, and approaching creativity with a beginner’s mind is often the best way to gain access to the deepest insights and discoveries beyond our initial understanding. This philosophy not only reflects in his work but also resonates with the ever-evolving nature of the Techno scene.
On the “Beginning” EP, Staím reminds us that the only thing permanent is change.
