Marina George – “Breathwork” EP (Adroit Recordings) [November 22, 2024]

Defined by a unique blend of genres and an unmistakable voice that resonates with passion and authenticity, Marina George knows how to captivate listeners. Known for her ability to mix indie pop, electronic, and alternative sounds, her work is an auditory adventure. Her songwriting provides deeply personal yet universally relatable themes of love, mental health, self-discovery, and the complexities of the human experience. Whether it’s through infectious melodies or introspective lyrics, she has the rare ability to pull you into her world, where every track feels like an emotional journey.

A Tresor resident, she has released with the likes of Suara, Kneaded Pains, Planet Rhythm, and more. Her debut release, “External Body,” revealed themes of identity and self-perception, questioning how we define ourselves based on external attributes, showcasing her ability to bring light to topics often ignored. Part of an ever-growing movement within the music industry where female artists support one another, she celebrates empowerment and collaboration. Her passion for music, thoughtful storytelling, and dedication to creating a deeper connection with her audience make her a truly unique and exciting artist to watch.

Her latest “Breathwork” release has landed on Swiss label Adroit, who profess an ‘Everything is art’ ethos. The release includes remixes by Klint and Toni Dextor, who each lend their interpretations of Marina’s original compositions. Established in 2015, Adroit has embarked on a quest to dive into the deep end of experimentation, favoring the underground and boasting a deep love and passion for the art of creation. Hosting standout artists like ANNĒ, Sera J, Alarico, and Ben Reymann, the label is picking up speed in the techno universe.

The title track is an ode to self-discovery, utilizing breathing as a vehicle for unlocking our inner strengths. The track eases on in a quite playful and bouncy fashion. The soundscape is sexy and plays through giving a feeling of fun and excitement. The pulsating rhythm paired with the airy breaths glittered throughout provide a hypnotic effect and perfectly captures a deep sense of seduction.

A feisty one, “Drip Berlin” kicks on and directly serves a bit of c-u-n-t. Marina’s sensual voice swirls through the kick drum, and you immediately feel that you are going on a journey. The feeling is mischievous and dark, pulling you in and making you want more. Capturing the magnetic allure of the city, this song is a gritty yet pleasure-filled wonder, just like the city of Berlin itself.
