VA – “MCVA006” (Maison Close) [June 21, 2024]

Founded in early 2019, Maison Close was initially created to showcase local up-and-coming talent as well as France’s influence on the Electronic music scene. Quickly making its mark in the Parisian and global Techno circles, label bosses Jakob Saulière and Lorenzo Lacchesi expanded to include a diverse array of international musicians setting forth with their own unique vision. Celebrated for its intense, dark releases and strong community of artists, Maison Close’s productions have been nothing less than trendsetting.

As one of the hottest beat-setting labels in the French Electronic music scene, Maison Close continues to push boundaries with a commitment to quality and innovation. Co-founder Lacchesi’s distinctive sound, merging fast-paced Techno, mental music, and groove, has been pivotal in shaping the label’s identity. Their catalog includes standout releases such as Lacchesi’s “Based On A True Story”, Danny Wabbit’s “Go Get Some People”,  Krl Mx’s “Shifter Pro” and Lacchesi’s charitable LP “P*NK,” which notably supported breast cancer awareness. With 20+ releases firmly under their belt, we have come to expect a devilish, nonconformist, artistic sound and aesthetic and their latest 06 VA holds the keys to many future fires.

The 16-track collection for their fifth anniversary features a broad spectrum of vibrations ranging from raw techno to psy-infused tracks. Presented in a unique vinyl format created by Chien Bleu Studio, it highlights artists from Australia, South America, and beyond, reflecting the label’s evolving visual identity and global reach. With a vibrant community of artists and fans, Maison Close Records remains poised to captivate audiences with its innovative sounds and unwavering energy. Skipping on featuring the stereotypical 90s sound that is currently permeating airwaves, it refreshingly focuses on more modern and experimental acoustics.

Highlights include Kuss’s “Talk with the Serpent”, featuring deep vibrating rolling bass, suspenseful synths, and tribalesque drums for a frenzy of a tune, ready to shoot you through a rocket. Antigone brings “Lost in Translation” which iconically delivers a yummy mysterious yet ethereal hard-hitting track, with a soft trailing female vocal juxtaposed with a hard and driving bassline. Pops of shimmering synth come through and the round and shiny atmospheric elements make the song feel like a dream. Lacchesi’s “The Side Quest” kicks a deviant blow, twisting the mind with distorted vocals and slithering bass for a highly pleasurable joyride. Bours? races through the gate hot and heavy with “Another Mirage”, immediately sending your pulse to the next level. The barrage of sub-bass and quick shuffling drums quickly take hold and fill all of space and time with dark and dramatic notes poised to be an essential dancefloor killer.

A compilation that will get the party started and keep hearts racing, it’s not built for the faint of heart. Featuring hot commodities of the modern underground techno scene and promising newcomers ready to take center stage, the compilation gives ample energy and a distinctive quality that will melt your worries and bring you quickly to your feet. Melancholic, dark, and seductive, the Maison Close crew know how to rile your senses.
