Ruskin & Broom – “Basement Jams” (Blueprint) [11/27/20]

UK techno legends James Ruskin and Mark Broom are at it again with 4 new tracks on Ruskin’s Blueprint label.

Accurately titled, “Basement Jams” effortlessly takes you on a journey to the dark trippy techno environments we all love. The heavy use of 909 minimal drum grooves and disconcerting acid synths create immaculately dingy auras for both warehouses and afterparty basements alike.

The first track, “Pr1”, storms in with a heavy drum arrangement for the dancefloor, paired with a rubbery 303 bouncing about to keep the ear and mind captivated. Next up, “Ocs“ takes the same sounds into a more hypnotic state with a calming synth sequence and heavy reverb washes to taxi you from one drum pattern to the next. Going back to the madness, “Tkn” provides an unnerving anxiety-driven atmosphere through an in-your-face acid sequence paired with abrupt introductions and drop-outs of the infamous 909 open-hat cymbal that has been a staple in techno since its infancy. Similarly, “Sn7” finalizes the EP with a short and sweet composition that consists of a surging modular acid line and euphoric synth stabs along with a thumping kick throughout to flawlessly elevate the listener from valley to peak in the short 3:22 minutes allotted.

Ruskin & Broom’s “Basement Jams” provide fresh and electrifying tools for your next basement or warehouse gig.
