The Soft Pink Truth – “Shall We Go On Sinning So That Grace May Increase?” (Thrill Jockey) [May 1, 2020]

This dark gem is an abyss of contemplation through experiment of chaos characteristic. The subconscious
signaling of pain that Daniel Drew invites us to is on his own terms. It is a response to fascism and call to
peace that we find on the other side of the darkest alley. Each track serves as the progression of an idea,
a thought proposed by the artist as seen in the title of this album. An echo of Drew’s black metal
obsessions and exploration of rage, it is dragging you even further into the depths of its foggy dreamy
land of danger with the lyrical harmony base persisting throughout. Religious echoing of sounds creates
an ambience of terror, losing yourself amidst blinding darkness. He gently lets you step over the edge
and embrace the shadow to find peace and resolution of all that is uncertain. There is no separation,
only a continuum of agony and release built through haunting layering of percussion and saxophone. A
psychedelic realm of vision forces a level of vulnerability that teases discomfort and yet you welcome it.
