Those who pay attention to emotions are in for a big treat with Bicep’s sophomore full length album release.
The Northern Irish duo pass the difficult second album hurdle with flying colours: An energetic yet somewhat enigmatic and pensive release. Andrew and Matthew break the start of the year with a solidified signature sound that could be synthesized as electronic with a global span and a high emotional charge. No doubt the diverse compilation of chants heard throughout the album come from all corners of the planet and invite us to embrace reality. The contemplative tone in most of the tracks leaves the listener at a crossroads of sentiments debating whether to move to the pulsing beat or to sit down and reflect on the meaning of existence- Are we islands in the middle of the sea? Either way, the strong bond with these sounds and rhythms is unavoidable for they conform remarkable achievement in communicating the current state of world affairs.
We are all connected. However, do we go together? BICEP’s music may not be the answer but it sure is a wonderful cathartic listening experience.
