V.A. – “Charged Particles Volume 2” (Southern Lights) [2/01/21]

Melbourne-based label Southern Lights continues its 5 year milestone celebration with “Charged Particles Volume 2”, a collection of 4 tracks veered toward the aesthetic of the anesthetic.

Vohkinne opens up the release with “Wave Function (Version 2)”, a meditative piece that sets the dark and hypnotic tone for the EP with its calming yet immersing vibe. Continuing the dubby venture, Sebastian Bayne’s “Two Spirals” centers around an elegant acid line backed up by exquisite minimal-esque drum patterns. It’s worth noting that the release title ‘Charged Particles’ comes from the Aurora Australis phenomenon, to give the listener extra visual insight to the inspirational music. This is especially apparent in the broken beat head-spinner “Eclipse” by Michal Wolski, which has an astral soul to it with a mysterious energy, brought about by multiple eerie synth textures bouncing around in different directions all at once throughout the track. Primor completes the congenial release with “Primor” by Metapattern, a tough deep techno number that drives home the label’s hypnotic methodology with 7 minutes of ghostly, minimal heaven. Southern Lights triumphantly assembles together a compelling release of organic, clean-as-can-be Australian techno with “Charged Particles Volume 2”.
