Lisene – “Mind Palace SALT016” (Salt Mines) [2/6/21]

Pumping from the get go, Mind Palace never relents on its journey to the other side of the wormhole. A blast to listen to the first time, seemingly never ending the quest for groove and funky basslines.

Major acid energy plays a role in all four tracks, blending symbiotically with forementioned funk. Radiating kick drums are woven in seamlessly creating what was once parts of raw material, into a fine wood framed portrait. Rave culture has seen a resurgence, coincidently as the world has been on lockdown. Ever present, especially in “Rush B.”

While we stay home, distanced from places that were once common ground, it’s important to have outlets that draw energy from the previous sources we held close. This album transports to distant planes while maintaining a nostalgic homeliness. Sonically alien sounding, but in a package that’s extremely accessible. The balance of style, theory, and execution is refreshing and encouraging. With so many layers, Mind Palace brilliantly figures out how to compensate in all phases of its long strange trip. The gifts never stop being given to the listener. Every track is complex in nature but incredibly pleasant on the ears. At no point does the album let up from its bubbly viciousness. Stellar on nearly all fronts, Lisene nails this release. Attention to detail molds a victory in audio form.
