RE_MAART – “Modifier EP” (Dynamic Form) [February, 25-2021]

RE_MAART comes with sharp formed groove, starting and continuing onwards with pure electronic energy.

The 38th release on Dynamic Form records brings a three-track package designed to tantalize and stimulate. Consistently climbing and stretching for a new combination of sounds which allows for an entertaining brain exercise. Raw in nature, but with the rough edges softened by pure bass tone. The EP sounds an atomic alarm to begin followed shortly by pulsating bass drum.

“Modifier” quickly becomes oscillated while the whirring of the alarm remains steady in the background. Low-ended stabs join the party and add a funk tinge to the bassline. Sounds of a chugging engine lead into organ pipes being frantically pounded until it reaches its only breakdown. The tone changes slightly and the once encompassing atomic warning lets up a bit creating a lonely dissonance. As the high-hats fade, we are left with the basic building blocks of the track that we started with.

The techno proceeds on with “Wimpish”. Similar in narrative, the second track provides echoing tension, starting with bells and a chunky kick. A modular sequence drones forward, bells remaining ominous and ever-present. A short breakdown, welcomed by fast patterned snare shots, provides temporary relief from the slamming bass. Well-crafted and hard hitting, the track does a lot without ever over extending itself.

The snare fades into a gasp of air, leaving only moments before the perpetual techno grind continues with “Moldban”. Combining rambling bass and a choppy kick that allows for the energy to naturally progress to a peak. The potent energy pauses for a moment and re-energizes itself, near three minutes into the last track. There is a distinct dark sound to “moldban” that somehow also induces feelings of warmth. Almost as if it were trapped in a cave, desperately attempting to escape. Snares roll into climaxes the escape, and now the track is running for its life. As the methodical cadence steers forward, tension is lifted and now, it has hit its full stride. The brakes are rarely hit in the process of the three tracks.

An impressive containment of high-energy techno with attention to detail. No track stands clearly above the other, they all share the same movement and goal of intently designed crowd pleasers. Will keep eyes out for future releases from the Dynamic Form crew.
