UK underground producer Adam Pits instills four funk laden groovers dedicated to the dancefloor.
“Adam Pits” has been on a tear as of late. A versatile producer that nails almost every project he is involved in. The UK producer seems keen on delivering club killers and this release is no different. The aptly titled “Piston Pump” takes the listener on a hell-bent power trip, rarely letting up. Garnishing support from fellow UK powerhouses Subb-an and Call Super, Adam brings together leftfield rhythm and funky breaks shockingly well. A devious undertone throughout collaborates with a mysterious package of progressive patterns that make the debut ultra-intriguing. While the tracks are not a completely new entity in comparison, they do seem to involve somewhat of an evolution in electronic dance music. The blurring of genre lines is becoming more sought after and at the very least, a welcomed format.
Hard edged bouncy basslines bring life to Kino der Toten “cinema of the dead”. Taking on a Michael Jackson thriller vibe, it definitely calls for dancing. Hypnotic bells fill the void as precise kick drums set the stage for the inevitable onslaught to come. A low full toned acid bass brings the meat and potatoes and the track really starts to feel itself. Blocks and glockenspiel amp up the groove even more with the track now at full swing. The coveted snare roll and clap bring the energy to a peak and keep it rolling onwards. Percussion patterns continue to evolve but very much in the style of the tune. The track dwindles until its original kick drowns into the abyss. The zombies can go back to sleep until next time.
The rest of the album follows in similar eerie fashion. Low droning Bass with broken up rim shots combines newer technique with older breakbeats we know and love. Esoteric riffs play on and fit naturally. An Ambient tone is set with an almost careless, whimsical vibe. A stark difference from the previous deviance. “Piston Pump” doesn’t leave a whole lot to wonder about, as far as inspiration goes. The reciprocating patterns compress in harmony until they are forced out in explosion. Suave and sultry, like an international spy. The chorus hums as we are reminded where we started once again. A Slick remix by “Bliss Inc” continues the mystery surrounding the release. Spacey and fascinating.
“Pistion Pump” is a jack-of-all-trades release. Different styles, ideas, and production techniques come together to create attractive tracks seemingly for the dancefloor, but that will work no matter the set or setting.
