DESTROY lays down powerful electro in proper format with the latest release on Steel City. Serious energy oozes from start to finish as the crew puts their twist on hardcore dance music. Expect the party to rock and bodies to move when “Born Rough” is brought to the stage!
A wild ride from start to finish, Guttertrax 003 is chock full of electro mania. Hard, fast, and blissful, with extremely high-energy output that seemingly never stops. DESTROY come from Saint Petersburg making sure to keep a low profile while outputting high caliber ambrosia for the ears. Releasing on “Steel City Dance Discs” hailing from Newcastle, aka the Steel city, Australia all but guarantees a solid slate of dance tunes. Rough and rowdy, visceral funk infiltrates the setting as soon as the onslaught starts making for a freight train of sonic waves.
A tantalizing combination of electro patterns and hip-hop samples are immediately apparent in the release’s first tracks. Raw drumbeats utilize 808 sets including twanged out cowbell and rimshots throughout the entire story. Elements of trap music are prevalent in the offering adding a unique twist on the old-school electro vibe. Fast tempo cements the party atmosphere with a strong emphasis on making bodies move. “Attack” begins with reverberated kick which drones on with a muffled bassline setting the stage for your standard electro jam. Grumbling bass is at a constant through the release allowing for rhythm to set the stage. Low end grooves are slightly skewed on many of the tracks which add stylish flare and an addictive head nod. The nostalgic hip-hop samples that are found in at least half the release’s tracks take a new age turn when combined with the mentioned bass patterns.
The evolution is apparent in tracks “If You Mine” and “Hooligan” The theme of “Born Rough” shines through in each offering by keeping things, to a certain extent, basic. The simplistic nature allows for a stronghold on the grooves, making them the star of the show instead of a background. A good example comes from “XXL” and its acid harmony. While an arpeggio weaves in and out, the acid line brings structure without taking away from the piano melody. Focusing on the basics lets the separate pieces of the puzzle come together organically, in turn making bright melodies that really pack a punch.
The overall vibe of the release is clear from the jump and nails its goal of raw, unadulterated, dance music. It’s a serious outputting of resonating hardcore that will break down the proverbial walls of any patron willing to take the chance. Stand out tracks include “Psyched” with its hypnotic cadence and rugged treble force. “Roughelectro” and its sinister homage to OG electro evolves the genre to new heights focusing energy in all the right places. Guttertrax 003 pushes the boundaries of raw electro to a place of pure dance energy. It is almost impossible to not be stimulated by the ethereal sound waves produced along its exciting path. Fully expect the release to be rinsed on dancefloors across the globe. Be on the lookout for more from the Steel City crew as we keep chugging along in 2021.
