Denver-based reviewer and Techno jockey Peter Stimson sheds light on his musical inclinations, career achievements, and general interests that all culminated to bring him into his current work within the industry.
With a plethora of musical tenure and experience both on and off the decks, Peter Stimson has spent a lot of time curating his musical aspirations and refined taste in a culture that’s provided us all a space to truly celebrate the individual and every unique element that makes up the various personalities of dancefloor warriors and speaker freaks alike.
Initially finding his niche and feeling of connection to the music in 2005 with the purchase of the Chemical Brothers “Push the Button” album, Stimson found himself drawn to the Electronic spectrum of sound engineering, though his interest in it could be said to also stem from his interests and identity in musical countercultures. Having been raised on a lot of ’70s and ’80s music, Stimson was always fascinated by music that his parents cited as being too “weird or heavy”. His newfound fascination with unique and different music led him to begin his journey as a curator in 2011.
His goals and ambitions behind the decks began when he found himself at Coachella watching artists like Breakage, Magnetic Man, Sasha, Boys Noize and, in a full circle moment of sorts, The Chemical Brothers. Though this wasn’t his first time at Coachella, he now suddenly found himself drawing inspiration from seeing these names behind the walls of speakers and on the decks, along with syncing up with some of the Dirty Epic family. Stimson discovered a newly instilled desire to be a more fundamental part of what he was witnessing and getting to take part in. Over the years, with the ebb and flow of musical styles and artists, he has always drawn inspiration from various sources and genres, being fortunate enough to find himself making the rounds of the Denver circuit on a monthly basis at minimum for the past year and a half.
As Peter Stimson looks to the future, he hopes to find time to expand his purview to other states and regions to share his musical fascinations along with finding time to actively begin a journey into producing so as to find his own unique voice and allow that to shine in his own way.
Finding a home for his musically inclined ear, with a unique blend of Deep House, Minimal, and Breaks to shine through and be featured, Dirty Epic has given an outlet for this talented, genuine artist to shine through in his ability to find new artists, releases, and imprints.
