Berlin-based S-File opens up 2021 utilizing the sounds of 1991 with his latest EP on his German imprint GND Records. Both the first two original tracks sport overdriven kicks with dry slamming beats and familiar synth sounds while the 3rd track remixes the 2nd and emphasizes the drum changeups.
“Illusions” brings you back to the no-nonsense slamming techno groove of the early 90’s with fast paced distorted beats and classic rave piano chords. The rolling percussion and swinging hi-hats provide peak-time energy to the dancefloor for any late-night stage that is ready for the madness.
“You’re The One” gets even more in-your-face with tougher beats hitting relentlessly throughout while a dreamy synth pad gives the opposite calming effect. Tribal yelling and snare rolls constantly build up the track until the breakdown releases all the motion down to just the synth pad and title vocals for just a hot second…before pounding you back full force until the end.
“You’re The One (Drum Tool)” skips the pads and goes for a quick 2½ minute buildup arrangement that would play nicely on a 3rd deck or as a quick intro/outro track.
Coming in quick and flawless, totaling under 13 minutes, S-File provides an expertly crafted throwback EP modernized by his tasteful mixing and mastering techniques that make GND Records so sought after.
