For DJ/Producer Octo Octa, 2020 was a year about expression and connection. Accolades and awards poured in from all over the world adding to her legacy and creating opportunities for the future.
Now, one month into 2021 the fourth release on (T4T LUV NRG) drops with something serious to say! Mind bending from start to finish, this EP is chock full of unique samples, tantalizing tempo shifts and profound rave energy. Going further seems to be a constant message in this musical trip. Just when an avenue opens up stylistically, a sonic curveball is thrown at high velocity flipping the whole script.
What may be called an “organic” sounding record, it lends itself to large ballads without sounding mechanically stagnant. Mixing vocal eulogies and breaks makes for an extremely interesting take on the club anthem. Sprinkles of tried-and-true hardware are intermixed through all three tracks adding to the natural path the EP travels. Brilliant but not overdone, sampling from the MPC-1000 weaves in and out mixing past with present in beautiful harmony.
There is so much to indulge in, be prepared to analyze for months to come like a Christopher Nolan movie. It is clear the production was heavily influenced by nature and more specifically the forest. The combination of Natural and technology is apparent from the first sequence. Octo Octa’s music comes from a place deep inside and it shows her personal outlooks and wishes in this world. Her relation to the listener cannot be taken for granted. It truly is music for the people. The message of love emanating throughout restores balance and takes music to a broader plane. Do yourself a favor and check this one out.
