Serbian DJ/Producer Lag puts forth a two track EP of twisted techno-breakbeat onslaughts on the Italian KR/LF Records imprint. Expect the terrorizing drum beats Lag is known for, matched with equally unnerving vocals and tripped-out arrangement tricks.
“Parter” spends no time on foreplay and gets straight into the high intensity levels he intends to keep throughout the record. Lag secures a rolling glitchy drum groove before entering in a vocal shout and more mechanical percussion, which he builds and releases with tightly-controlled reverb sends and a mixture of subtle and abrasive multitrack mixing that takes you on an untamed journey into his fierce and brutal mind.
The side B “Twitch” comes in with a less noisy, yet equally ruthless number that contains as much raw power as the imagination can handle in a dance track. Again the massiveness of the drum beat takes charge of the general tonality throughout, but this time including more switch ups to the arrangement for a constantly surprising structure that will keep the dancefloor on its toes.
Lag continues his impressive output of 2021 that includes a slew of well-received tracks, as well as notable mixes for Warehouse Manifesto, Resident Advisor and our own Amplify Series. With his “Parter / Twitch EP”, he clearly shows no signs of slowing down and it will be interesting to see what he has in store for the second half of the year.
