Flug – “Move Around EP” (RSPX) [November 19, 2021]

Argentinian techno DJ/Producer Flug aka Sebastian Lopez returns to Radio Slave’s Rekids Special Projects for the second time this year with his new Move Around EP. Featuring four distinctively diverse flavors of techno, Flug shows his far-reaching production expertise in a similar fashion to his last RSPX release, Austral Frames EP.

“Alloy Steel” starts off the record with a massive booming kick and tribal percussion feeding the dark big room vibe that ensues throughout. Each element fits the same giant warehouse aura from the large hall reverbs on the synth stabs, to the drum fills, to the ravaging excitement of tightly grooved hi-hats. Topping it off with Rekids’ excellent mastering, the track has a place in warehouse anthem territory.

In “Black Out,” Flug delivers a minimal jacking number perfectly fitting the ethos Rekids Special Projects has been pushing all year with releases like Mark Broom’s Mutated Battle Breaks. Dynamic hat patterns cut through, pushing the groove to its energetic limits while the synth melody filters in and out, delivering peaks and valleys to the composition and giving off the signature RSPX minimal feel.

The title track “Move Around” starts off the b-side with a gabber-sized kick and swinging minimal drums for an in-your-face techno explosion. Creative kick fills and vocal chops provide a uniqueness to the artistry of the dance floor oriented track. Keeping you ‘moving around’ from start to finish, Flug shows his masterful arrangement skills with a plethora of short breaks and trippy changeups.

“Sinergy” wraps up the release with a subdued dubby feel compared to the prior three efforts. Lurking into the darker shadows of techno, Flug entrances the listener with subtle mixing techniques that ease the sharp drum elements and mellow synth lines in and out of obscurity. A proper come-down from the high energy record, the Argentinian producer scores another big hit with the legendary UK imprint.

Move Around is available on most streaming and digital platforms.
