Kon Janson – “Memory Motion” (Spatial Cues) [November 17, 2022]

Berlin’s Kon Janson releases a jaw-dropping 20 track Techno album on his Spatial Cues imprint titled “Memory Motion”.

Producer, label owner, and product manager at Native Instruments, Kon Janson has mastered the art of Techno. Over the last five years, he and his Spatial Cues label co-founder, main(void), have put out some truly exceptional digital releases. Having received support from top tier DJs, including Joseph Capriati, Luke Slater, and Slam to name a few, it is clear that the two Berliners are onto something truly exceptional. With the latest “Memory Motion” LP, however, Janson cranks out not the typical four, but twenty standout tracks, and they all sound marvelous.

Without getting into each and every track on the album, there’s at least a handful that you need to check out. Track five, titled “Tangle Loop,” is simply wicked. Crackling sound effects fill up the space, while a flailing lead echoes out. An ominous pad adds an extra layer of intensity, while bright and delicate hi hats maintain the intoxicating groove. Track seven, “Souvenir,” utilizes a wet and slippery-sounding modular loop for a truly hypnotic experience. Paired with a proper light show, this otherworldly cut should have you hallucinating in no time. “Small Blocks” and “Bit Shift” are perhaps best suited for the peak time—ideal for a climactic moment in a DJ set or if you want to impress your most seasoned, Techno-obsessed friend with something fresh. Gritty and grimy bass lines sound menacing but not overbearing and truly stand out for their cutting edge sound design and brilliant execution.

While this only cracks the surface of “Memory Motion,” it is strongly encouraged that you to listen to the album in its entirety. And if you like what you hear, consider supporting Kon Janson and Spatial Cues by downloading the LP via the Bandcamp page, linked above.
