Nicolas Vogler – “Korten 007” (Sektor Evolution) [September 22, 2023]

Get in losers, we’re going for a ride! Ever wonder what the perfect soundtrack for an expedition on Mars would be? In comes Sektor Evolution’s 7th Korten release with esteemed technical master, Nicolas Vogler. This modern take on astral travel gives all the right rhythm-focused energy and none of the ray gun-inspired cheese.

“Korten 007” feels like a new wave space adventure traversing across unknown territories all while gazing at the stars. With a completely minimal, microbial sound yet plenty of groove to keep you moving, “Korten 007” will easily bring you into a real-life intergalactic planetary.

Up-and-coming Nicolas Vogler is no stranger to impeccable production work. A mastering engineer, DJ, and producer, he has already amassed a collection of over 150 released tracks, contributing to fan-favorite, heavy-hitting labels like Malör, Mutual Rytm, Planet Rhythm, and Frenzy. Label boss and founder of NCLS Records, Vogler’s raw, funky, and hypnotic rhythms have earned him wide acclaim in the underground scene, gaining him titles such as “reliable” and “prodigious” and even landing him a position as a masterclass teacher at Beatworx.

Hailing from southern Brazil, his sound is inspired by the dirty rawness of ‘90s Techno, and while you can definitely hear this influence in his tracks, they clearly have a mind of their own with an emphasis on funk and percussion. His skillful production techniques and mastery of modern sound have wielded him support from many of the biggest names in the industry—including Rødhåd, SHDW & Obscure Shape, and Patrick Mason, to name a few—granting him a supreme seal of approval. Still vastly unknown to the mainstream, he may be one of the underground’s best kept secrets.

All 4 tracks arrive with their own distinctive sound. The “Korten 007” release first blasts off with “Triplet Madness,” and we are immediately transported to another time and space. The tunneling percussion gives a feeling of movement while the groove is undeniable. Keeping in-line perfectly with the initial groove, “Slap Bass” brings in a heavier and deeper bassline to provide a hypnotizing effect.

By the time “Barrell Roll” hits, we have already transcended. Picking up the pace with a multi-dimensional wobbling bassline mixed with heavy percussion, you could easily be spellbound. The excitement continues into “Lost Connection” for a heavily rounded-out yet molecular, wonky-sounding flow, adding the perfect amount of effortless funk. Overall, there’s a very organic take to making out of this world sounds. The only downside is that the album is far too short.

Ready to enchant you and take you away, “Korten 007” is the perfect escape from the everyday world. Take a ride with this instant mood elevator and leave the earth behind.
