Beau Didier – “Cutz” EP (Beau Didier) [February 11, 2022]

Beau Didier makes a stand out debut with four hip-hop injected techno cuts across his self released “Cutz” EP.

Netherlands-based DJ and producer, Beau Didier’s first EP, “Cutz”, is sure to set off the dance floor. Reminiscent of many classic techno tracks from the late ‘80s and early ‘90s, Didier incorporates short bursts of old school hip-hop throughout all four tracks, adding swagger and pizzazz to his already energetic dance tracks.

“Cut 1” starts the EP off with a classic vinyl-scratch sample instructing that this record “should be played at high volume.” From the jump, a wobbling bass line pumps and swings. A thick, steady kick drum sets a fast pace, while frantic hi-hats and claps perfectly fill the gaps. Quick vocal slices and a bright synth stab further intensify and energize the mix while seamlessly blending in with the rich percussion. In this track, Didier demonstrates the importance of composition by keeping things steadily moving along, building up, and never losing steam.

While “Cut 2” is a fun club track that features a cheeky and provocative Pharoahe Monch sample, “Cut 3” elevates the mood even further. Tribal drums come flooding in, sounding like a perfectly synchronized drum circle on fast-forward. A massive bass line feels loose, yet deliberate, and chaotic, yet completely under Didier’s control. “Y’all Ready to get funky” a voice shouts, preparing you for the grand finale.

The last of the four cuts is a more hypnotic, disorienting journey that takes you on a wild ride. Layers of percussive loops pile on top of each other without ever sounding cluttered or messy. Tightly knit grooves with less of an emphasis on the vocals, this cut is best suited for the peak of the rave. Though around the same beat per minute, this track feels particularly fast paced and sure to get dancers to break a sweat in the warehouse or club.

Beau Didier’s first release will make a great addition to any techno DJ’s collection and sets the bar high for what we can expect from the newly emerging talent. His “Cutz” EP crosses genres and sticks to a theme, all while staying true to the roots of techno.
